Patriots Player Doesn’t Deserve Ridicule or Kidding Around After Not Making Catch in Super Bowl XLVI

Sideline Sam is all supportive of creative PR ideas and promotions to help push a company or product.
But Pawngo, an on-line pawn shop, is the one who has dropped the ball here.
It pulled a PR stunt by piling up 8,000 Butterfinger candy bars in Boston’s Copley Square as a “gift” to Patriots receiver Wes Welker, who couldn’t quite twist his body enough to make a tough catch that might have won Super Bowl XLVI.
And that’s piling on to a player who already feels bad enough about not coming up with the catch.
Butterfingers? Maybe some stickem, the glue-like substance receivers used to apply to their hands to hang onto balls until it was banned by the NFL. Welker had to turn, leap and pull in the ball, a very difficult maneuver.
Just because he got his hands on it doesn’t mean he should have caught it. It would have been a circus catch, one that would have gone down as one of the greatest in Super Bowl history.
If anyone is to blame for the play being close but not succeeding, it’s Tom Brady, who delivered the ball just off target enough to cause it to roll off Welker’s hands.
And now a company is sending Welker Butterfingers?
Hey, give Pawngo credit for being creative. But it was an idea that should have been intercepted.
At least people in Boston got a free candy bar if not a Super Bowl win.
